In response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis, Canada introduced special immigration measures to support Ukrainian nationals and their families affected by the conflict. These initiatives fall under the Special Groups stream within Canada’s work immigration category and are designed to offer safety, temporary protection, and access to employment opportunities.
One of the key measures was the Canada–Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET), which enabled Ukrainian citizens and eligible family members to enter Canada through a temporary resident pathway. Although the CUAET program closed to new applications on March 31, 2024, individuals who arrived in Canada under this initiative may still be eligible to apply for open work permits and explore available permanent residence pathways.
