Alberta Immigration

Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), previously known as the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, is Alberta’s economic immigration pathway for individuals seeking permanent residence in the province. The program selects candidates who can help address labour shortages or who plan to start or purchase a business in Alberta. Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to support themselves and their families. The AAIP is jointly administered by the Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada.
If you receive a provincial nomination through AAIP, you may apply for permanent residence along with your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children.
Applications for permanent residence are processed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), which also makes the final decision on all applications.

Program Streams

To be eligible under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) with Live Better Immigration, applicants must meet the following conditions:

Streams for Workers

The AAIP offers three immigration streams for foreign workers who are currently living and working in Alberta or who intend to do so:

Eligible candidates who live and work in Alberta and have a valid job offer from an Alberta employer may apply for nomination under this stream.

Candidates with an active Express Entry profile may receive an invitation from Alberta to apply for nomination. Certain occupations may qualify for faster processing through the Accelerated Tech Pathway.

Foreign workers with a job offer from an Alberta employer in a designated rural community may be eligible to apply for nomination through this stream.

Streams for Entrepreneurs

The AAIP provides four streams for entrepreneurs planning to live in Alberta and establish or purchase a business in the province:

Entrepreneurs interested in starting or buying a business in a rural Alberta community can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).

International graduates from approved Alberta post-secondary institutions who plan to start or purchase a business may submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).

Experienced farmers who intend to buy or establish a farming business in Alberta may apply for permanent residence through this stream.

International graduates from outside Canada who wish to establish a business in Alberta may apply for permanent residence under this stream.
