Super Visa

For Parents and Grandparents

Canada strongly values family reunification. The Parent and Grandparent Super Visa is a unique long-term visitor visa designed for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents, allowing them to stay in Canada for up to two years on each visit.

Unlike a regular visitor visa, the Super Visa offers multiple-entry privileges and extended stays, subject to meeting specific eligibility requirements such as medical clearance, financial support, and valid health insurance.

Why Apply for a Super Visa?

Note: The Super Visa does not permit employment or full-time study in Canada.

Eligibility Requirements

For the Applicant (Parent or Grandparent)

For the Sponsor (Child or Grandchild in Canada)

Special cases: Divorced or separated parents or grandparents may apply separately, provided each applicant submits an individual invitation letter and supporting documents.

Medical Insurance Requirements

The insurance coverage must include:

The policy must be purchased from an approved Canadian insurance provider, such as Manulife, Sun Life, Blue Cross, Allianz, or Travel Guard Canada.

Insurance policies purchased outside Canada are not accepted.

Financial Requirements – Low Income Cut-Off (LICO)

The sponsor must meet the minimum income requirement (LICO) based on their total family size to demonstrate the ability to financially support the visiting parent or grandparent.

If the sponsor does not meet the LICO requirement individually, a co-signer (spouse or common-law partner) may combine income to meet the eligibility criteria.
