Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must qualify under one of the following federal immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Work Experience

  • A minimum of one year of continuous, paid, full-time work (or an equivalent amount of part-time experience).
  • Work experience must be in a skilled occupation classified under NOC 0, A, or B.
  • The experience must have been gained within the last 10 years.

Language Proficiency

  • Applicants must meet the minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) requirements specific to their program.

  • Applicants must be admissible to Canada and must not be inadmissible due to medical, criminal, or security reasons.

Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)

Candidates in the Express Entry pool are assessed and ranked under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which allocates points across multiple categories:

  • Human Capital Factors: Points are awarded for age, educational qualifications, language proficiency, and Canadian work experience (up to 500 points).
  • Skill Transferability: Additional points are given based on combinations of foreign work experience, education, and language ability (up to 100 points).
  • Provincial Nomination: A provincial nomination adds 600 points to a candidate’s CRS score.
  • Arranged Employment: Valid job offers can earn 50 to 200 points, depending on the NOC level.

Express Entry draws are conducted every few weeks. Candidates with the highest CRS scores receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) and are given 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence.
